can you see the steam coming out of my ears?

I was just doing a little net surfing regarding the Nadya Suleman situation (she has a website now! and you can send her donations through paypal! vomit) and I stumbled across this little gem of a post:

http://communities.canada.com/vancouversun/blogs/socialstudies/archive/2009/02/11/nadya-suleman-octomom-just-doing-what-comes-unnaturally.aspx

Oh. my. fucking. god. I am so angry I am shaking right now, and can pretty much kiss sleep goodbye tonight. If you don't feel like reading it, she basically says that we should just accept mother nature's assessment of whether or not we are to become mothers. Really? What about the parents who abuse, neglect, rape, murder their children? Did mother nature make a great decision there? And what about when mother nature says that someone will have diabetes? or heart disease? or cancer? Should we ignore medical intervention for those issues too? Don't get me wrong - I think the Suleman situation is an atrocious abuse of medical technology, and the doctor who transferred the eight embryos should be severely punished. That said, I would flatten this woman with a spinning backfist if I lived in Canada. She should just be glad Obama won the election. I had to settle for a comment calling her out (which has not been posted as of yet) for her ignorance and prejudice towards those of us who are childless, and not by choice.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Am I just being overly sensitive?

  1. I was nodding my head right up to the "Conundrum" part. I agree with you. It is great that we have these technologies available to us and that women/couples who desperately want to have children have a chance but I think the case of these octuplets is a gross abuse of those technologies. I realize the moral dilemma of selective reduction, it's a very difficult choice to make, the same as terminating a pregnancy due to trisomy whatever. But human beings are not made to carry a litter! I think it's ridiculous that she is holding her hand out for donations, it's one thing when a hurricane flattens your house it's another when you choose to put yourself in such a position. She chose it when she went back for more IVF, when she had 6+ embryos implanted, when she didn't reduce the pregnancy to 1 or 2 or even 3 babies. She has likely sentenced those 8 babies to lifelong health issues and disabilities. And that's if they survive the coming weeks and months. And the taxpayers are left footing the bill. She actually thinks she doesn't collect welfare? She must be crazy. Jon and Kate Plus 8 and 18 Kids and Counting are glorifying it all. I will not be surprised when that channel picks up the Suleman Story and makes a reality series out of it. I think this woman is incredibly greedy and selfish not to mention insane. I could go on and on, the injustice of this with respect to my situation and other babylost mothers infuriates me.
