and the universe continues to fuck with me....

Yay. Just found out that through the evil of FB that the new girl we hired - the girl who shares a workspace with me - is pregnant. I'm expecting the work announcement soon since she seems to be 16-17 weeks along.
Our clients are a bunch of friendly nose folk who like to comment on everything: "Oh your hair is so long!" "I really like your makeup today," etc. Oh, and this is the first time someone in our office has been pregnant for realz. It's going to be torturous.
It's just my luck too - I was starting to resolve the whole love/hate my job thing (it was shifting mostly to love) and now I have to quit.
I have to say, I didn't handle this discovery well. The ugly cry made an appearance, as did self pity and self loathing. I have got to learn to handle this shit like a grown up. Sigh.

  3. Everyone gets knocked up at my job. I've been told it's something in the water. I'm sure I won't catch it.

I'm sorry this is happening. It really sucks.

  4. I'm sorry. I know how this feels and it sucks. I was pregnant at the same time as my friend/boss last year, with whom I share my office with (we sit 3 feet apart!) I had my 3rd M/C and she had a baby. Without wanting to be the messenger of doom , beware it gets worse. I love her dearly but I get to hear all about little MMB while I'm physically and mentally f'd up and it's heartbreaking.

    Good luck on staying sane.

  5. Crap! I hate it when life keeps fucking with us. Enough already!!! I'm so sorry that you've had to take another dagger. Thinking of you as you figure out what you're going to do.

  7. I'm very sorry! That's really awful, I hope that if you decide to quit you'll be able to find a much better job :(
Or that she'll be discreet about it. Maybe even be one of those ridiculously small pregnant women and only "pop" when it's time for mat. leave so that people wont even comment too much.

  8. I'm sorry. FB is the devil. I cry every time I read a pregnancy announcement, which is pretty much every day. My husband asks why I just won't get off of it, but I think I'd rather read it and be able to handle it in private than be blindsided by it at the grocery store or something.
I hope work won't be too bad.

  9. Oh honey, I am so damned sorry...about the work situation and about the fact that I've found another 8 time loser (it took me 11 pregnancies to get my 3 boys). I wish I could say or do something to make it easier. Tons of sympathy and {{{hugs}}} coming your way.

  11. Oh, please don't say that you have to grown up. Please. You already feel wounded and this revelation is like throwing salt in your wounds.

I'm sorry. This just plain sucks.

  12. Facebook is a beast!

I think I still have a lot of people's statuses hidden from back in 2009 when I was having a series of pregnancy losses. All the "7 more week to go!" and the like was really upsetting me. What boggled my mind even more was that many of those people knew they had several friends on FB dealing with various degrees of infertility and yet every other status would be some inane tidbit about how their babies didn't like what they ate for breakfast.

    :(

Sorry you're in an uncomfortable spot.

  14. Self-pity is the new black - didn't you know? All the cool girls are wearing it. And as to being a grown up - over-rated.

Very sorry about the new girl's news though, it really does seem sometimes that the universe just picks a few people and likes to continually shit all over them hey? I hope that if you do decide to leave you get a nice new job full of men - no risk of the belly that way!

  15. Blow her cover at work before she can tell anyone!! It's easy - bring in a tray of soft cheeses, deli coldcuts, and deep-sea fish and casually, yet loudly, point point out that she is not enjoying the smorgasbord. Will that make you feel better?? I'm just trying to brainstorm things you can do to overcome the pregnant beast. Good luck!!

  16. Ugh, I'm sorry. I can't imagine having to deal with that on a daily basis. Luckily my co-workers are all out of their child-bearing years.

  17. Sucky, suck, sucks! You have every right to feel crappy after this news. I agree with AP. now, go have a glass of wine and eat some soft cheese and sushi right in front of her.
